When will they stop...

Real quick…I cannot believe this Obama birth certificate stuff is still going on. He has shown the documents necessary to be the President. Barring some worldwide, bi-partisan super conspiracy, he has shown himself to be eligible. The right wing (extremely right wing) people hear a random baseless claim and think that he has a duty or legal obligation to stifle a rumor. OR he is compelled by the constitution to refute and “prove” himself against every stupid thing he is accused of JUST because someone says it. I remember the indignity when Bush wouldn’t release some of his background documents (military service etc) that the right had over the demands….now, of course, they are demanding the same thing but even more. I am not a huge Obama fan but when they have to resort to this kind of crap to tear him down, it means that they are out of arguments. Case closed. Move on morons!

I forgot...

I forgot to tell everyone about our little outing last Saturday. My grandmother, the kids, Stormy and I all went to the Nevada State Museum of Art in Reno to see:

“La Velata” ( The veiled woman) by Rafaello. The painting was exquisite as was the carved frame. Actually, I enjoyed most of what we saw at the museum, although, I was not too terribly impressed with an exhibit of an artists real estate themed works. They were good drawings but got a little old after number 50 or so. There was something fascinating about standing in front of a painting that was made 14 years after Columbus’ 1492 voyage that still looks more or less like the paint had just dried. The frame was carved just a hundred years later so both pieces of the work are pretty damn old. Before we left the building, we made 3 or 4 trips back to “re-see” it.
There was an exhibit of Amphora Pottery called Monsters and Maidens. I liked that too.

We tried to go see the Rembrandt exhibit last month but the museum keeps rather odd hours and we went on the wrong day.
I did enjoy this better than a trip to the Met or SF art museum because it was small and straight to the point rather than wandering through miles and miles of hallways of artists that I dont care about, though there are 7 or so artists that they exhibit there that I would love to see. I just can’t take a whole day of it.

Bummer.

Well, I recieved my first ever invitation to a celebrity event and I can’t even go. I got an invitation from Flaminio Maphia to attend their CD launch party on the 18th in Rome. It asks for an rsvp and I dont wanna say “no” because I don’t wanna be taken off that list but I certainly cannot say “yes” because I can not possibly attend on such short notice. I have spoken with one of the two front men several times and would love to be there but I cant get the time off of work and it is a little late in this stage to be trying to make international travel plans. One of these days, I’ll have to go to something like this as I would so much enjoy it. They are one of my 3 or 4 favorite groups and they have events every so often so I will have to beg for some really advanced notice so I might have time to plan. We have some places to stay over there (as to avoid hotels etc) but they are all in far northern Italy and it would be quite the drive (imagine italy being about as “long” as California) trip would be comparable to driving to LA from sacramento or something like that. Oh well. I still get to make the 2nd best trip….I get to go to Gabbs 4x a week! :'(

Yet another year.....

So….what did everyone do for new year’s eve? Stormy and I met a friend in Elko, NV (not too terribly far from the Utah border) with whom we had a great celebratory time. We sang karaoke and hung out until the proverbial ball dropped (they did not have the time square festivities on the television so there was great discussion as to who had the correct time to toast the champagne that the casino had passed out to us) and then spent a couple hours watching Stormy sing etc. I had not been to Elko in years (1994) and Storm had never been so it was a fun excursion. It is much bigger than Fallon and reminded both Stormy and I of Redding CA….both in size and amenities. It was snowing as well so that added some ambience (literally: “atmosphere” or colloquially: “mood” for those living in Placer County) although it did add some unwanted elements to our travels.
Anyway, we are having the same friend over for dinner tonight so I must go to prepare. When one is a master of culinary excellence such as I, it takes awhile to prepare for such a work of art. I am giving lessons though, I will be in Rocklin soon and I will set up a workshop for those who I deem are in need of some cultural education. You will be recieving the fliers in the mail. Please register 2 weeks in advance…..OK, I am bored with that joke now.
